Before leaving Boise we stopped by legendary kayaker Rob Lesser's house for one last bit of information. If there is anyone you should talk to before attempting this journey, it would be Rob.
Rob was the first to kayak the Grand Canyon Stikine in 81' and in the late 70's and early 80's kayaked both Devils Canyon (Susitna) and Turn Back Canyon (Alsek).
With eyes and ears open we listened to stories of success and failures, each ending with Rob shrugging his shoulders and a "Well...you know how it goes." This is how all great expeditions should start, with the stories of legends from the legends themselves.
