  1. Brian,

Hey man, this is Mike Forbes. I talked to you Friday night about the triple crown and blogging. My class of middle school students just spent some time checking out your blog and they think it's pretty cool. We're actually typing this comment together. They have a couple of questions for you: 1) Have you ever flipped your kayak? 2) Do you hold your breathe the whole time you go through the rapids? 3) Are you afraid of dying?

Thanks for sharing your trip with us. Good luck finishing the triple crown and we look forward to the final posts.

  2. Hi mike,
I just got back into Idaho and settled from the trip. We successfully completed the Triple Crown.
Glad you guys took a look at the blog.
    To answer your questions:
    1) I have flipped my kayak probably a few more times then I would like, but with lots of practice I have mastered rolling my kayaking upright.
    2) You find yourself holding your breath more than you think. There are large splashes of water coming at you from all directions, so you try and time your breathing.
    3) This question is why it has taken me so long to answer. I would love to give you the ole', "No, I'm afraid of not living" answer, but heres the truth. Yes, I am afraid of dying, but I think that is what keeps me alive on the river. It helps me make sound, smart, calculated decisions so that I stay alive. I have a responsibility to my friends and family to return from these trips alive. I have spent a majority of my life on rivers and plan to on spending the rest of my life paddling.
I leave you with, I use the skills I have to get to other places people can't normally go.

Thanks for you time and happy paddling,
    Brian "B Real" Ward
