The Big Su

Susitna River was named by the Dena'ina Alaska Natives people meaning "sandy river". The Susitna River stretches 313 miles from source to sea while dropping 2,500 feet in elevation.  Our team took on the challenge of kayaking 138 miles from Denali highway through the class V gorge, Devil's Canyon.
The first 40 miles consisted of navigating 12 inches of water through sand/rock bars with sightings of caribou, eagles, large mountains, and camping in the Alaskan tundra. The next 87 miles entertained our minds with canyon walls, sandy beaches, and class III whitewater until reaching the final 11 miles of Devil's Canyon.
